There are two ways to incorporate recruits into an army.
Add to existing units and create new units. New units will be green with muskets. Recruits added to existing units will get the same weapons as the existing units. Quality may or not be effected as long as you stay within the 15% rule.
The way FtW works, the President sends out his orders. These orders are passed down the chain of command to the lowest level. At each level, the player in command can either accept his orders or change them. The only orders we follow are the ones given at the lowest level. Changing orders from a superior is done at your own risk ... both militarily and politically. We have said over and over ... if you are going to be in command ... then command. Pretend like you were actually there.
Given that, you are free to organize your forces and move them any way that you want within certain rules.
Note: Recruits incorporated into an existing army may move with that army if the army moves. Recruits not incorporated may not move the turn in which they are formed (this turn) ... they must stay and train.
You may split your army (within limits) any way you want. Send some there, send some somewhere else, keep some at home. You are in command.
Add up the infantry, cavalry and artillery men and get a total. In this case 3982 + 469 + 234 = 4685
Multiply the total by .8 to get the new total for infantry. In this case 4685 * .8 = 3748
Multiply the total by .16 to get the new total for cavalry. In this case 4685 * .16 = 749.6 or 749
Multiply the total by .04 to get the new total for artillery men. In this case 4685 * .04 = 187.4 or 187
Artillery uses 25 men per gun so 187 / 25 = 7.48. This means 7 guns get manned. 25 * 7 = 175 with 12 left over.
The left over get transferred to infantry. The new total of infantry is 3748 + 12 = 3760
So you new totals are 3760 infantry, 749 cavalry and 7 guns (25 men each).
When forming units, these different types cannot be mixed.
New infantry units are formed in 500 man sizes. 3760 / 500 = 7.52. 7 regiments of 500 plus 1 of 260.
These numbers are spread out to even things up but no larger than 500 per regiment and no more than 8 regiments.
Regiments are grouped into brigades in sections of 4 regiments. With 8 regiments, they are formed into 2 brigades of 4 regiments each.
All infantry will be armed with muskets.
Cavalry works the same way as infantry. Cavalry can be attached to an infantry brigade or they can be formed as a separate brigade if there are enough to form 4 regiments.
Cavalry are armed with shotguns.
Artillery are attached to brigades. A battery of guns is 4. In this case, one battery will be formed of 4 guns with the second containing 3 guns for a total of 7.
The batteries can either be attached to 1 brigade or they can be split between the two brigades.
Artillery tubes will be 6lb. cannons.
