Tournament Rules

Length of Tournament

Tournament games will start as soon as possible and will conclude on July 3, 2009, the 146 th anniversary of the original battle (giving us approximately 1½ years to play). The scenario is a 200 turn game, and it is expected that no battle will conclude before this date. The tournament can be ended earlier if the current commander of the ANV or AoP (Dave Bowman and Mark Oakford at the time of this writing) concedes defeat in the ACWGC's Mason Dixon Tavern.

Number of Players per Team

Teams will be composed of not more than 5 players per team, nor less than 3 players per team. Should "real life issues" cause a team to lose a player and go under the 3 player minimum, that team should recruit a substitute player to take the retiring players place.

Turn turnaround times

Each side should make a best case effort to return moves within the same number of days as the number of players they have (ie if have four players on the reb side, return move in 4 days). Quicker turnaround is of course appreciated. If one member of at team is out of touch for an extended time, another player may move his troops for him. This rule is a guideline and it is recognized that extenuating circumstances may cause delays during the course of the game.

Victory determination

The scenario starts with 0 points in the Victory Dialogue box. Tournament victory will be determined by adding the scores for all matches together for a grand total army score. This grand total score will determine which side is the victor. A combined score of less than 1 to 6000 points will be considered a minor victory/loss and more than 6,000 a major victory/loss for each side.

Early termination

Should a team in an individual match early terminate a game; an additional 3,000 points will be added to the score of the opposite teams score. This will encourage a losing team to continue the battle even if losing in order to minimize the losses in the overall Tournament (after all, RE Lee or G. Meade couldn't just up and quit when things didn't go their way, they had to figure out how to get out of the fix they were in).
