1.  Militia

This unit type is to serve as introduction for all new recruits.  Command responsibility will be centered on entry level education in proper protocol, use of online utilities such as Game Forms, presentation of available forums such as the War College and Army Intelligence, as well as understanding of the conventions for advancement to higher rank and or transfer to Elite units.  Should a new member prove himself able to stand on his own, Command shall affect transfer to a Regular unit, unless circumstances permit direct transfer to an Elite unit.

2.  Regular

This unit type is considered to be the main stay of the army, and is intended to accommodate such members who prefer solitary engagement, or are capable of only limited participation due to time constraints.

Regular units are encouraged to identify the unit with a Historical entity of the Army of the Shenandoah.  Said division may be comprised of brigades, in whole or in part, of any service type such as Cavalry, Zouave and other Volunteer Infantry, Artillery, and Sharpshooter.  Regular Command, at their discretion, may opt to maintain a web site (i.e. Field HQ) and or Forum, however such is not mandatory.

3.  Elite

This unit type is intended to accommodate members that desire a high level of Group Participation activities.  In particular, persons looking for elevated interaction with fellow Division members, eager to register for club tournaments, willingness to participate in Multiplayer engagements and or Division level conflicts/challenges.

Elite units shall identify themselves with an historical unit of some noted prestige.  Said division may be comprised, whole or in part, of any service type such as Cavalry, Zouave and other Volunteer Infantry, Artillery, and Sharpshooter.

Division Command, with any identified Staff, shall have full management control of the unit.  As such, command privilege shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

Minimum requirements for applicant acceptance, and governance of existing members, shall be established by Division command.  Elite units may offer limited terms of participation (Tour of Duty), wherein an applicant may enlist for a pre-defined period of time, and or commit for the duration of a multiplayer engagement or Division Challenge.  Upon completion of the Tour, the participant may opt to remain permanently, with Division consent, sign up for another Tour, or return to a Regular unit.  Division Command may grant to participants a Ribbon, Certificate or other such award, to mark the achievement.

Additionally, Elite units are required to maintain a minimum membership level of four (4) Brigades. (i.e. elite units falling below a minimum membership level will be subject to Disband), and other criteria to be determined.

4.  Raising an Elite Unit

Should the existing Elite units be at their maximum capacity, or should there be several members of Regular Units who wish to elevate to a group effort in the form of an Elite Unit, a senior officer shall be chosen, who will then petition Army Command for permission to "Raise" a new Elite Unit.  The petition should fully document those members who desire to participate in the effort and detail arrangements made to meet the stated requirements, as specified above in paragraph A.3.   Provided that all requirements are met, Army Command will formally commission the new unit.   In order to maintain the integrity of the Army as a whole, Army Command reserves the right to deny the muster of any new divisions, should such mustering be deemed detrimental to the state of the Army.
